Ron is an Associate Professor, Teaching Stream at the University of Toronto where he teaches mathematics methods courses for future middle and high school teachers. He has over 20 years of experience teaching grades 7-12 mathematics. Ron’s professional activities include consultations and conference presentations in North America, Asia, England, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Qatar and Africa. Ron is an author for the NCTM (The Mathematical Lens) and member of the Advisory Board for the Museum of Mathematics in New York City. He is the recipient of the 2015 Margaret Sinclair Memorial Award Recognizing Innovation and Excellence in Mathematics Education awarded by the Fields Institute.

What a great week it has been. We had students trying out for Track & Field events, students out at a Fluid Power Challenge, a Girls’ Hockey Event, Earth Hour, and an incredible Drama Showcase! Students are busy in so many ways at St. Andrew’s…It is really amazing to be a part of this incredible family of learners!

Celebrating Science

Four Grade 8 students from St.Andrew’s M.S. competed in the TDSB Technology Skills Competition.  They spent the day designing and building a model of a hydraulic device that could be used to clean plastic from our oceans.

The team was awarded first place and will be moving on to compete in the Skills Ontario Competition on May 6.

We are looking for people to join a committee that would oversee our wonderful Pizza Lunch program, as our current committee of parents is graduating.

Pizza Lunch has gone through a number of different refinements over the years, and we feel like we really have it down to a science now!

Budget Online Survey

The TDSB 2019-20 Budget Survey is available for TDSB staff, parents/caregivers, students and community members. We encourage you to complete the survey and share your views. Your feedback is valued and will help trustees develop this year’s Operating Budget in alignment with our Multi-Year Strategic Plan. The deadline is Tuesday, April 2, 2019.

How do messages about health impact your children and families? Join our panelists as they share their perspectives on navigating messaging about health, recognizing when eating and exercise behaviours may be harmful, and how to support young people who have a challenging relationships with food, exercise and body image. We will hear from parents, clinicians, and individuals with lived experience of an eating disorder. Come out to learn more about health, disordered eating and exercise, and how to navigate the difference. This panel is open to all family members who have an interest in learning more about food and weight preoccupation, disordered eating, and supporting healthy lifestyles within their families.

Guest Speakers: A panel comprised of parents, doctors, therapists, and staff from the National Eating Disorder Information Centre

Grad photo retakes are tomorrow, Friday – March 22 after lunch. If you would like your child to have a retake, it is best if they are wearing a white collared shirt. See the smiles tomorrow!

Parents as Partners Conference 2019

Parents as Partners Conference 2019

The Parents as Partners Conference 2019 is on Saturday, March 30 and all parents are welcome!

This free conference – planned by parents, for parents – includes a variety of workshops and resources that will help any parent to support their child in their achievement and well-being at school and at home.

Transportation, food and interpreters are all provided, as well as free Day Camp for children ages 4-12 to support participants while attending the conference. Register now at www.parentsaspartners.ca

We also would like to take a moment and wish Ms. Michkowski a wonderful new beginning as she graduates from St. Andrew’s Middle School and moves on to a new career path at a TDSB Secondary School.
